I worked with Vic Halom back in the 90s. Nice bloke but he could get a bit worked up esp if you mentioned modern footballers. I told him Id been to Brian Maclairs testimonial at Old Trafford and he went on and on about how they dont need the money. Vic's generation just missed the big time when serious money came in and I could see it rankled him

Nothing has been able to get near the quality of 98 and 86. They have all been rubbish after 98. These types of tournaments are an emotional energetic journey of highs and lows. Really need the next world cup music to capture the emotion of the game.

Saw Millwall play at Oldham a couple of months earlier than this game. Final score was 1-1, a player called Allder scored for them, really dire game. Their manager was a guy called Benny Fenton, who obviously didn't last much longer in the job.

No wonder Millwall were relegated in 1974-75 on this showing - barely created a single decent scoring chance.

Brian Moore: they don’t make ‘em like him anymore. What a consummate professional he was. Would these days come again.

My problem with the first couple of tournaments here are the absolutely shoddy clips they use. Did they show some great goals, silky pieces of skill or memorable moments? Nope - 1978 had a series of clips of managers (hold on to the edge of your seats everyone), a bunch of nothing, and a lingering shot of a huge fat guy to finish off. 1982 livens things up a bit with a man yelling, another man yelling, a referee touching his face, a bald guy yelling, and another guy yelling. What a load of wank.

That was a great interview with the two Scots. But the thing about Willie Young is that he was banned from playing for Scotland, after an alleged incident in a Copenhagen nightclub in 1975.

Weird thing. In 1970s you could fight, throw elbows, scissor kick but the referee would wave play on, but heavens above, push down on a defender while heading would be a yellow card. In 2020's, You can push down on defenders all you want, but you so much as brush a player with a feather, the player drops like an anchor and its a red card.
